We’re Rebranding from iWitness Design to Mission Lab

Do you remember the shift from middle school to high school? For many, it’s a time of self-discovery where teenagers begin to grow out of things that they had previously enjoyed and begin to embrace new passions, friends, and even a new sense of who they are. Maybe you have children who are going through this phase of their life currently.

In a lot of ways, running a young company is like raising a teenager that is making the shift from middle school to high school. At times, it feels like you have no clue what you’re doing at all. At others, it feels like you’re a rockstar who has figured things out. In reality, it’s a mix of ups and downs, frustrations and triumphs, sleepless nights and nights of celebration.

As our company has grown from an individual consultancy to a premium development agency working with top-tier universities, disruptive tech startups, and nationally known nonprofits, we’ve learned a lot. We’ve learned how to produce killer results for our clients. We’ve learned how to scale at a moment’s notice.

We’ve also learned that our company name doesn’t reflect who we are, what we do, or the clients that we serve.

Let’s be honest, iWitness Design sounds like an Apple product that never quite made it out of beta testing. At the time, it worked well enough for my personal consulting, but it hasn’t aged well as we’ve grown as a company.

On March 2, we’re rebranding to Mission Lab.

Here are a few reasons why:

We love working with mission-driven companies.

As we reflected on the clients that we’ve loved working with over the last few years, we realized that they all had one thing in common: a big mission. Some of these clients were startups creating cool tech products. Others were top-tier universities trying to revolutionize how they connect with students, faculty, and experts. Others were nonprofits trying to meet the needs of the world around them. And still others were companies who wanted to make the lives of their customers better.

Despite the differences in organization type, clients served, and even geographic location, all of these organizations had a mission that fueled what they did and made us excited to work with them. By rebranding as Mission Lab, we’re doubling down on our commitment to working with organizations that are powered by mission.

Like scientists who work in a lab we’re practitioners — not theorists.

There are a lot of organizations that are great at being theorists. They put out a ton of content, provide needed coaching, and help to shape the way countless organizations think. While we’re thankful for these organizations, we’re not one of them. We love learning new things — and we’ve learned a ton — but ultimately we’re practitioners who love solving problems and getting our hands dirty.

We’re on a mission.

Not only do we love serving mission-driven organizations, but we’re also a company on a mission. We believe wholeheartedly that working hard for our clients while caring for them well is a way that we can honor God. Just to clarify, nothing is changing regarding the types of organizations we work with — we love working with organizations of all backgrounds!  We simply want to bring honor and glory to God by doing our best work possible while caring for our clients in a way that goes above and beyond what is expected.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for people.” Colossians 3:23

Wrapping up

If you’re still reading this, thank you. I’m beyond grateful for the family, friends, clients, and future clients who have rallied behind us throughout all these years.
